Weekend in Poznań 22-24.03

The first spring weekend promises to be extremely interesting. It will be possible to watch the most interesting African films, get to know the works of the best tattooists from all over Poland, as well as go on a nature walk in Strzeszyn and take a ride on the Maltanka. It is also worth visiting the Easter market, which has just been set up on Wolności Square before the holidays.

Easter market

Workshops on basket weaving and palm tree making, performances, meetings with the Easter bunny and stalls selling delicacies and handicrafts – all this awaits citizens until Sunday at Freedom Square (Plac Wolności). More than 40 exhibitors will be taking part in the event. There will be an opportunity to do some shopping to decorate homes and tables for Christmas, among other things. There will also be an interesting meeting with Helena Rojewska. The craftswoman will show how wonderfully Easter eggs can be painted. Volunteers will be collecting money at the fair on Saturday and Sunday.

AfryKamera – 18th African Film Festival

A film review presenting the achievements of African cinema. Contrary to stereotypes, AfryKamera proves that this continent is not a film desert - on the contrary, it makes an outstanding contribution to world cinema. All films will be screened with double Polish-English subtitles.

Spring unveilings to mark International Theatre Day

International Theatre Day, celebrated on 27 March, will be celebrated at CK Zamek with a light-hearted advance. During the four-day celebration, it will be possible to watch two performances, prepared by the castle's Theatre Studio, and attend two concerts – one performed by Kuźni Piosenki and the other from the World's Smallest Theatre series. In addition, there will be movement workshops led by Katarzyna Pastuszak, a choreographer and dancer from the Amareya Theatre in Gdańsk.

Gifts-loving hares

An interactive puppet show for children. The characters of the play are two hares who love presents. However, they do not really feel like sharing them with anyone. The performance will show, among other things, what will result from the meeting of an Easter egg and an egg that does not want to accept the strange appearance of its colourful friend.

Mirage on canvas – storytelling at the National Museum

Pankiewicz, Podkowiński, Signac – three great names whose works are in the National Museum in Poznań. What is known about them? Kuźnia Piosenki is a castle workshop for singing people who, under the guidance of Tomasz Mazur, bring out their full vocal potential. Vanya – performance broadcast

Broadcast from a theatre in London's West End. Andrew Scott (an English actor known for, among other things, the TV series Fleabag, Black Mirror, Sherlock and the film The Good Strangers) in an unusual version of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya by Simon Stephens. Hopes, dreams, hidden regrets and one actor in many incarnations – the new adaptation carefully explores the complexity of human emotions.

Mithari – concert in Ułan Browar

Mithari is a singer, composer and songwriter. In her songs, she focuses mainly on conveying emotions and content that is important to her. Her lyrics are framed by melodies from a variety of genres, such as art-pop, rock, funk and folk, with live instruments accompanied by electronic sounds. She performs on stage with her band. Her first two singles 'Pochodnie' and 'Maski' were premiered in 2023.

Tolkien's Poznań

Nature walk

On the first weekend in spring, you can go on a nature walk through the Strzeszyn ecological site. A guide will tell you about the greatest curiosities of the area and the beginning of the bird breeding season and amphibian migration. The youngest participants of the tour will gain knowledge during a field game and solving puzzles. A bonfire is planned after the walk (feel free to bring your own provisions). The expected length of the route is about 6 km (the distance may change depending on the number of participants and the pace of the walk). The organisers recommend taking care to wear suitable, comfortable, warm clothing – waterproof, off-road shoes and trousers and a waterproof jacket.

Poznań Tattoo Convention

MTP halls for two days will turn into a huge tattoo studio where several hundred tattooers and piercers from the best studios in the country and abroad will work. It is a great opportunity to see at the same time the whole cross-section of styles and trends in tattooing, talk to professionals and get a new tattoo in walk-in mode or by appointment.

Fun at the Muza (Frajda w Muzie)

Saturday Family Mornings at Kino Muza is a long-standing tradition that grandparents, parents and carers of 3-year-olds know well. It is an excellent opportunity for a child's first contact with cinema in a friendly intimate room. As part of the 'Frajda w Muzie' series, before Saturday's film screening there will be a joint reading of an extract from a book by Frajda Publishing, and after the screening there will be time for creative workshops related to the reading.

The concert promotes the artist's recently released album ‘Tęskno Mi’. This personal and melancholic album is a story about the fear of adulthood, longing for the carefree years or, finally, the fears associated with being a parent. Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert's new film is a story about fighting for oneself, but also about the beauty of true intimacy. Will she be willing to sacrifice everything to be able to live a normal life without fear?

IRA – concert

IRA – a legend of Polish rock founded in 1987 – continues to celebrate its 35th anniversary on stage. The band from Radom took the genre by storm in the first half of the 1990s with albums such as ‘Mój dom’, 1993 and the live album ‘Live’. The evening will be opened by Gadowska with Gachs.

Cycling to welcome spring

A joint cycling ride through Poznań is a joyful holiday worth spending together. For more than 30 years the cyclists of Poznań have been meeting to chase away the gloomy ghosts of winter and invite spring to the Poznań fringes. The ride will start at the Citadel to reach the Warta River via the Old Market Square, where the symbolic Marzanna will be drowned. In previous years, it was the COVID virus, a Russian tank or inflation. What will be the cycling Marzanna this year?

Oysterboy is the solo music project of Piotr Kolodinski, vocalist of Terrific Sunday.

Secrets of Haiti

International Francophone Day, which falls on 20 March, is a celebration of the 320-million-strong community of French-speaking people around the world. It is an opportunity to discover the culture and history of Haiti. This former French colony is inhabited by descendants of indigenous Taino Indians, African slaves and white colonisers. Dr Tomasz Rudowski will speak about its history and condition, and the lecture will be followed by the film 'Poles in Haiti'.

Mr. Kuleczka's house with its resident animals: the duck Catastrophe, the dog Pypcio and the fly Bzyk-Bzyk, is a safe place, full of love, trust and support. Michelangelo. Love and death

Filmed on the occasion of an exhibition at the National Gallery in London, the film presents a biography of Michelangelo Buonarroti. Together with Leonardo da Vinci, he is considered one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance. His masterpieces are among the most important objects of world heritage. Phil Grabsky's film is a treat for art lovers.

Elektra – performance

According to the myth, Agamemnon's family was under the wrath of the gods. To alleviate it and to ensure his success in the Trojan War, the Mycenaean ruler sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia to the gods. This triggered a series of tragic events.  The heroine of the latest production of the 'U Przyjaciół' Theatre seeks her way to solace in ancient myths. She is particularly inspired by the Achaean avenger, Elektra. The performance can also be seen on Sunday.

Welcoming spring with Maltanka and the shrew

In connection with the start of the calendar spring, the Maltanka Park Railway will be launched. The "lynx", or MBxc1-41 car from 1932, will take to the route – it is the oldest surviving operating diesel-powered vehicle of this type in Poland. It will pull the ‘cowgirl’, as the wagon number Bxhi 00300014 254-1 is called, probably dating from 1912. Both are heated, so in case of bad weather it will not be cold in them.

Pissarro in the countryside – meeting

During the meeting, the history of Camille Pissarr's drawing 'Study of a Woman Pounding a Pea Pole' from the collection of the Cabinet of Engravings of the National Museum in Poznań, which for more than a century was considered to be a work by Jean-François Millet, will be presented. Dr Paweł Ignaczak, who discovered the only work by this outstanding impressionist in the Poznan collection, will talk about Pissarr's work. The meeting will be followed by a concert of impressionist music

Woman with... – preview

'Woman with...' (Kobieta z…) is the story of Aniela, who could never be fully herself – she was born in a male body. The story of her journey to gender reassignment is about the struggle for herself, the hardships of parenthood, complicated relationships with her family and surroundings, but also about true intimacy. Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert's film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.

Mateusz Tomczak is a Łódz-based producer and vocalist. His music explores themes of trauma, frustration of various kinds, desire and sadness. Żniwa and Furda – spring concert

Żniwa are a married couple of multi-instrumentalists, Skjere and Raido. Their songs are neo-Celtic, Slavic and Nordic pagan-folk, inspired by ancient beliefs, legends and fantasy. They play the Romantic lute, five-stringed fiddle, didgeridoo, drum, neo-Celtic harp, tagelharp and Irish, transverse and aliquot flutes. Furda is a multi-instrumental duo that combines folk instruments with the possibilities of digital sound modulation.
